Our Experience with Chicken Pox

Despite having a vaccination, Bay has chicken pox!
Though it is not uncommon for the virus to break though, it is definitely unusual to see a full-blown case like this.

How to classify as full blown case?
My PD asked me to count the spots and if there are more than 100, it's a full blown case.

I stopped counting at 100 and they are just the spots on half of his torso! It is only the 2nd day, not even over the peak of "poxing". Oh man! We decided to give him the antiviral medication to shorten the symptoms duration. It has to be taken within 3 days from the start of first symptoms.

Our greatest worry is Meimei, who has not taken any of her vaccinations for Chicken Pox. As advised by our PD, we immediately brought her for the jab. If the jab is taken within 5 days of exposure, then there is a high chance that the jab will take effect faster than the virus. It's a race against time!

Update: As of 25 May 2014, 1 month after our chicken pox episode, Meimei is still pox free.

Implementing The Right Reward System For My Kid

Bay is highly motivated by the carrot. Recently, I implemented a reward system for him such that he will get a stamp if he had done something well (like learnt a new song on the piano, did his homework well, etc). He need to collect an agreed number of stamps before he can get his reward.

Post 清明节 lunch 2014

I was told not to go to any columbarium, graves or burial grounds during pregnancy. Young children should avoid going to such places too.

Thus, I had not done my part for 清明节 (going to pray respects to my ancestors) since 2009 when I was pregnant with Kiiron.

This does not stop us from meeting the entourage of relatives for lunch after they are done with the praying.

As usual, I sent Bay to his skool this morning. While he was preoccupied with the routine morning checks, I went to fill up a form. I finished in time to see him happily dragging his bag towards his class. He didnt turn around to look for me... No goodbye nor big hug from him.

I had waited for this day to come, for my boy to be independent.  We had came a long way from a clingy baby to a sticky toddler who cried every day for months in skool. ... but why do I feel like crying while I'm writing this?

We went to Hong Kong this year for our annual extended family tour. The 3 boys had been counting down to this trip for a long long time!


Day 1 (Travelling Day + Streets Shopping)

Enroute
An early start for this trip. Meeting at the airport at 6:00 am for our 7:55 am Tigerairways flight. Basically I dressed Bay in his nice long-sleeved t-shirt the day before, "plucked" him off the bed at 5.45 am and "chiong" straight to the airport.

The most exciting part about flying from Budget Terminal... we get to go so close to the planes and the boys were so excited!

We must be one of the rare few who had our meals during the 3-hr budget flight

Touch down!

The first thing that we did upon arrival was to go for lunch. Ok, I know we ate on the plane but it was lunch time already when we arrived.

Day 2 (Ocean Park ay + Streets Shopping)

To Infinity And Beyond...

I am a mediator during the weekends. Bay and J2 loves to play together but they will play for 5 minutes, argue/fight for 5 mintues, I have to step in to appease them when I hear my name (三姨!!!), they will then continue to play for 5 minutes and the cycle repeats...

Their latest craze is Buss Lightyear from Toy Story. The kiddos are getting themselves familiar with the Disney charactors as a prelude to our Hong Kong Disneyland trip in December! I'm sure they will enjoy the new Toy Story Land even more now!

This is how boys play! To infinity and beyond... (or using Bay's version "munimini and beyond!")

 

Eating Out With My Toddler... IKEA

Do you know that they give free baby food for diners? I didnt until now!
What a waste as Bay is off bottled baby food already.
Kids' menu is S$2.90 per set including an ice-cream which cost $0.50 from the bistro
If you ordered the kids' chicken nuggets meal, IKEA will donate $1.75 to help educate kids!
That means the meal is like $0.65 only!
What's more, for the month of November, for every $20 in the restaurant, you will get a $5 shopping voucher for home furnishing products.
There's a little play area inside the restaurant for the kids to have fun while adults eat and chat!

Music time!

Perhaps it's the effect of the Baby Plus Prenatal Education System which I used while I was pregnant with Bay or the nightly bombardment of youtube videos while I was bathing...

At 27 months, he absolutely loves music and is very sensitive to beats and rhythm. It's so enjoyable to listen to him sing and he is not shy to do so too.

We ordered the set menu with 1 mini ramen and 1 mini don. (We had Menchi ramen + Oyaku don)
With the FREE topup of ramen, (no free soup, just the plain ramen, so you have to keep some soup for the topup) this set meal is more than enough for the 2 of us.

Nice Surprise In My Mailbox - Smilebox from Skool

I dont really like surprises in my mailbox, especially when it is my work mailbox as it means more "arrows" and more work.

2.5 weeks after Bay started Skool, I received the first surprise in my mailbox... a really pleasent one which totally brighten my dull day. How I wish I'll get such nice stuff everyday in my mailbox!

Eating Out With My Toddler... Suki-Ya Hotpot Buffet

Free for kids below 4 years old
We had the double-sided hotpot and ordered a non-spicy soup base for the kids, they loved the udon, japanese fish cake and of course the softy ice-cream
There is "free flow" of iPad at the kids corner!
We were given a table near to the kids corner so the boys can play while we eat our dinner.
